Assange, the Passionate Pig-Headed Activist Passively Seeks a Date

Harry Harrison? Really? Julian Assange’s alias for his dating profile on OK Cupid is so fake that the blind lady who holds up the scales of justice could see right through it, turning to the next profile without blinking an eye. This is the transparency for which Wikileaks founder Assange envisions, for governments and institutions to be sure. But for individuals? That’s what Big Brother is for.
Assange is no longer a private individual but a very public figure. One could argue his status as an institution. Having nothing to hide means not worrying about hiding it, whether it’s now or four years from now. If you aim to change the world through transparency, imposed, accidental, voluntary or otherwise, you might want to review your personal history. A public figure’s personal history rarely remains personal, especially if your life’s work is providing a publishing outlet private, secret (or sacred in some instances) information. Burn the negatives from that topless photo shoot before becoming Miss America.
The photos Harry Harrison posted of himself on his OK Cupid dating profile look just like Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder. That’s about as much of a smoking gun as anyone needs, really. But when you start reading the OK Cupid’s character evaluation, doubt begins to fade that we are indeed talking about the same guy so famously full-of-himself these days.

He jumps into his wooing description with: "Passionate, and often pig-headed activist intellectual seeks siren for love affair, children and occasional criminal conspiracy." Sure, that’s consistent, even four years later.
“Such a woman should be spirited and playful, of high intelligence, though not necessarily formally educated, have spunk, class and inner strength and be able to think strategically about the world and the people she cares about.”

Hey. You had us at “criminal conspiracy.”

“We’ve looked and we have no reason to think it’s not legit. It’s certainly not a PR stunt,” OK Cupid CEO Sam Yagan told The Village Voice.

“Harry Harrison” hasn’t visited the website since 2006, back when Assange’s life was less complicated, before the transparency bug bit him in his private life. Still, it’s the kind of PR stunt money can’t buy, certainly not without beefing up the website’s server capacity, an upgrade that never happened, causing site crashes that did happen due to the sudden increase in hits. OKCupid.com changed their policy of profile access, now restricting it to current “OKCupid members only,” followed in the next sentence with encouragement for us to create an account.
