Are You Ready to Give Up Microsoft Office?
The Microsoft Office software suite has been the main tool for a long time for office workers. Anybody who needed to write something or draw a table just thought: ”Ok, I need Microsoft Office for that”.
Many software producers developed and released a series of free document-edit tools. To be honest, there are just a few that prefer OpenOffice, just because it’s free, although it doesn’t rise up to Microsoft Office’s status and performance. I’ll show to you the online office suites that can be used for free.
If you’re a conservative user or less expert on computers you’ll probably hate the idea of an online office suite. You have to make an effort to pass over that mentality and find the utility of the online suites.
First of all, why would I use an online office service?
The answer is built on many other answers. First, I don’t have to install anything on my computer. The application is accessed via a Web browser; all the created documents and the application itself runs in the browser from the producer’s server. The result is that your personal computer won’t run slower than usual and still you’ll do your work just fine.
Another good reason is the initial cost, which is zero. (Of course, corporate IT departments would disagree, but this article is only for those that can choose their office suite.) Besides that, you can access them from any computer so you are not tied up to one IP or one computer.
Let’s see the most used online office suites.
Google Docs
This is probably the most famous of all. Google Docs finds its origins in Writely,
a document editor that Google once bought, enhanced and renamed. This is a very good application, protected by your Google account password and you can basically do whatever you need with it: tables, presentations and documents. The interface is similar to the computer’s programs layout, so you won’t have problems with getting to know this app.
