With cloud computing becoming becoming cornerstones in more and more companies' mid-to-long term plans, IT software monolith CA certainly doesn't want to sit on the sidelines.

Yesterday, they announced the acquisition of cloud performance monitoring company Nimsoft for $350 million. This is in addition to their purchases of at least four other cloud-related companies, including 3Tera and NetQoS.

Nimsoft offers solutions that allow managed solution providers (MSPs) the ability to get real-time performance and availability status of their customer's applications, whether internal or external, and have already developed monitoring and reporting systems for cloud solutions providers including Google Apps, Rackspace and Amazon Web Services.

According to the press release, Nimsoft's products are easily deployed and automatically maintained.  CA hopes that with them, they'll be able to extend their ability to offer one-stop IT management solutions to emerging enterprises and MSPs, which they estimate will account for 25% of the spending in CA's market within the next two years.
