Energizer DUO USB Charger Software Contains Trojan
Well, this kinda gives new meaning to the whole "keeps going and going" thing. According to researchers at the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), there's a Trojan in the software that shipped with the Energizer DUO USB battery charger that gives backdoor access to computers on which it's been installed.
Energizer has confirmed both that the malicious code is in their software, and that they have no idea how it got there.
The purpose of the software is to show battery charge status, but once installed it creates a file called "Arucer.dll" which listens for commands on TCP port 7777 (man, they shoulda picked 666) through which hackers can then insert and execute files on the infected PC.
Thankfully, killing this bad boy is as simple as uninstalling the program or simply deleting the offending dll from the "system32" directory and rebooting.
I never did like that damn bunny.
