EU Passes New Telecom Laws
The European Parliament has approved a raft of new telecom laws designed to give European consumers cheaper telecom services, more privacy and faster Internet access. The news released by Telecoms Europe clearly signals a good mood across the Member States which cover most of the European countries. The laws broadly attempt to equalize telecom services across Europe. with dominant operators forced to compete fairly with smaller rivals or face having their networks separated from their service divisions.
The new laws are more consumer friendly than service provider friendly. The consumer or the public has been given more weight. Digital TV by 2012, 100% broadband coverage in whole of the European Union, more opportunities for small service providers, sidelining of monopolies of big players, liberty for people to switch over to another service provide without much hassle are some very strong points.
The member states have to start adhering to these rules latest by 24th May 2011.
