Happy Birthday to First Dot-com
Seems like only yesterday you could purchase pretty much any domain that you wanted (heck, I owned original.com at one point), back before the gold rush started, folks grabbed everything they could think of, and companies started getting stuck with e-nameofmycompany.tv.

Well, maybe it wasn't yesterday, but it really was only 25 years ago today that Reagan was still in office, David Letterman came was on NBC at 12:30 and wasn't a grumpy old douche, and Symbolics registered the very first domain name.
Symbolics.com was followed that year by five more registrations: bbn.com, think.com, mcc.com, dec.com and northrop.com. Not even xerox.com, ibm.com, hp,com, sun.com, att.com or intel.com were registered until the following year.
So here's to you, symbolics.com, for being the first chunk of what became some of the most incredibly profitable (though not for you, perhaps) non-tangible items to buy and sell in history. If only your owners had thought to buy sex.com....
