Prepare to be Wowwed By Wowd
At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, the newest real-time search engine Wowd was publicly launched. The unique thing about this search engine is that it is a peer-to-peer search engine. Combined with real-time technology, users are in for a treat.
The entire approach of Wowd is based on information finding you rather than the other way around. Information is extremely up-to-date and is meaningful. The search engine is designed to return information based on "real people" results.
This is a departure from SEO. With SEO (search engine optimization), web sites are carefully keyworded and structured in such a way as to gain a higher result within search engines. SEO spamming is prevalent with this approach. As an alternative, Wowd's approach tosses SEO rankings out the window and bases higher results on what you and your peers are interested in.
To get the full benefit of how Wowd works, a peer-to-peer client needs to be downloaded. It can be configured as you like with as much or as little privacy as you require. Then, as you surf the web, you can nominate web pages you find informative or interesting into the Wowd index. The more a site is nominated, the higher up it shows in results.
The one downside to the new search engine is that to get the full benefit you have to download the peer-to-peer client. Many surfers are reluctant to add yet another program to their growing list. And, for some, having something tracking their surfing habits may be a bit too intrusive. However, given a bit more time and a lot more exposure, Wowd could possibly be the next step in search engine technology.
