MIX10 Sessions Ready App Developers for Windows Phone 7
At the MIX10 conference in Las Vegas this week, Microsoft added troops to fight the mobile wars that are playing out across the smartphone application markets. The sessions that focused on helping independent software developers build apps for Windows Phone 7 were heavily attended. Developers looking to find a path to capitalize on the Microsoft partner ecosystem were given a high-level roadmap for how to participate with the release of the Windows Phone 7 Series developer toolkit.
These videos provide a quick survey of the process for developing and merchandising applications on the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. Complete sessions and developer toolkits are available here.
One common complaint both consumers and developers have about the Android and Apple mobile app stores is how hard it is to discover apps from unfamiliar brands, the ones built by garage developers cooking up the next new thing we can do with our mobile phones. The following video shows Microsoft's framework for promoting and merchandising mobile apps within the Windows Phone 7 Series Marketplace, although it is very light on programmatic details at this point. Given that Microsoft already has a Windows mobile marketplace and an XBox Live Marketplace, most independent software developers and publishers in the room probably already have a sense of the rules of engaging with the Redmond OS maker.
