In the news
Very rarely do I have time to sit down and watch the news. I'm so busy in the morning getting the children up, making breakfast, packing bags, and generally getting the day started that sitting down to focus on what's happening in the world isn't always an option. By the time the news comes on in the evenings I'm busy making dinner, doing baths, packing lunches for the next day, and trying to convince the children that winding down is a good thing. And, I haven't made it to the 11:00 news in quite a while.
I do, however try to catch the news online. I have bookmarked my local news station and try to visit at least once a day to get the jist of what's happening in the world and with the weather. But, what I have found recently is that the headlines are so negative and depressing that I'm almost willing to trade it in for just being clueless!
Just this morning I logged on to read the day's headlines and here's what I found:
- Local Restaurant Robbed
- 80 Year Old Man Charged with Murder
- Lightening Causes House Fire
- 8 People Dead in Mobile Home
- Woman Set on Fire, Boyfriend Charged
The closest thing to a positive story was the mention of Miss Georgia having the opportunity to meet other beauty pageant contestants. How depressing is that!? When did everything get so negative that there's nothing to report but bad news. What happened to a little human interest? What happened to reporting about the good someone is doing in the community? It can't all be about the bad economy, the bad politics, the bad crime, and the bad people. Is there any good left out there!? Can we try to report on that for a while!?
Or, at the very least, can we try to limit the bad news until lunch time so I don't feel like putting a bullet in my head before I've even had coffee. At least the newspaper gives you arts and leisure...
