Komen Exec Handel Quits After Brinker Reverses. It's Still about Politics!
To quote a phrase that James Carville coined during the 1992 campaign when he said, "It's about the economy stupid!" the phrase should read, "It's about politics, stupid!" regarding the recent resignation of Karen Handel, the Republican minded Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation executive who spearheaded the push to defund Planned Parenthood. When folks do not do their homework (about the storm clouds and weather regarding a particular issue) and want to please their friends and handlers as Handel most likely did, they get into deep water and quitting is the only way out to stop the media onslaught!
After the reveal that Handel was most likely behind Nancy G. Brinker's (founder and organizational leader of Komen) announcement that Komen was pulling funds supporting Planned Parenthood, no amount of recharacterizations, pretty words, phrases and "baloney by Brinker" could hide what looked like a political swording of the non profit that provides health care to women who cannot afford regular medical services. As the egregious injustice of Komen's action hit every media outlet, blog, FB site and Twitter site, to name a few, the web, politicians, and local Komen groups in Atlanta and elsewhere distanced themselves, and excoriated Komen. It was the best thing that Komen could have done for Planned Parenthood whose donations soared to hundreds of thousands in twenty-four hours. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was a mega contributor.
Petitions, marches sprang up within the space of a day or so of the announcement and as all combined, united and turned toward Komen with their fury, they created the energy and terror of a tidal wave that nearly took out Brinker and that inevitably did take out Handel. Again, I repeat to Karen Handel, "It IS about politics, Ms. Handel, and politics should have no place in the fight against cancer, the main thrust of your former organization which doesn't select Democratic and liberal breasts over Republican breasts to infiltrate and cell devour. I do hope that God (A big shout out sorry for the atheists who read this next sentence; just ignore it as tripe. And yes, by the way, many CHRISTIANS, I, being one of them, DO support Planned Parenthood! Don't stereotype Christians, please. Did you know before C.S. Lewis became a Christian, he was a pleasant atheist?) does not have a sense of humor.
